Garden Court criminal practitioners take a stand against Government cuts

Friday 13 December 2013

The Crime Team at Garden Court Chambers has unanimously resolved not to accept very high cost cases (VHCCs) at the new rates of pay, which amount to a 30% cut in the existing rate.

VHCCs are some of the most complex cases within the criminal justice system and, as a rule, must be expected to last for at least 60 days in court.

We shall also be supporting the day of action called by the Criminal Bar Association in protest at the Government's remorseless attacks on public funding of legal services. On the morning of the Monday 6 January, we shall be joining with others in not appearing in court in those cases in which we have been instructed.

We are top ranked by independent legal directories and consistently win awards.
