It’s important to familiarise yourself with your rights before you attend a protest. Our Danielle Manson spoke to Miss Vogue, to give her advice on how to protect yourself while using your voice to stand up against injustices, such as inequality and systemic racism. These guidelines are intended to help you understand how to effectively protest while avoiding placing yourself in a position that could invite police intervention, as well as what to know should that happen.

In addition to being a barrister and working with BPLS, Manson is a volunteer legal observer, meaning that she will attend protests in a hi-vis vest and be on hand to support the rights of activists by offering basic legal advice, acting as an independent witness to police actions, handing out bust cards (printed with basic advice on what to do if arrested and solicitor contact details) at rallies, and supporting arrested protestors.
