Garden Court Chambers is a large and dynamic Barristers’ Chambers with a dedicated team of staff who provide the clerking, financial, marketing and administrative support for over 190 barristers. We are a diverse set, specialising in all aspects of human rights and social welfare law, including crime, family law, housing, immigration, and civil law. We are based in a listed in Carmelite Street, close to Blackfriars tube station.
We now have a vacancy within our Clerking Team – Team Assistant to Public Law & Social Welfare and Immigration Teams . This is a full time role.
This is a new role created to assist our growing Public Law & Social Welfare and Immigration teams. We are looking for an ambitious team player and self starter to join our busy and friendly teams. This role offers a great opportunity for progression
General Duties
- Assisting Practice Mangers and Deputy Practice Managers of the teams in arranging and booking cases, conferences and meetings, involving liaising with professional clients and courts via email and telephone
- Assisting Practice Mangers and Deputy Practice Managers of the teams in diary management, including contacting barristers to ensure they are aware of their commitments.
- Assisting Practice Managers and Deputy Practice Managers of the teams in preparation for documents for Practice Review Meetings when necessary
- Liaising with Reprographics team to ensure arrangements are made for relevant papers to be copied, scanned and delivered to court and other chambers
- Liaising with Reprographics team to ensure arrangements are made for assistance to barristers in going to court and returning.
Person Specification
- Minimum 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English at level 6 or above
- Minimum of two years clerking experience preferably civil law areas
- Good attention to detail
- Good organisation skills to ensure case administration is accurate and up to date
- Excellent communication skills
- Proactive and willing to take initiative
- Professional attitude with good client relationship building skills
- Good team player
- Excellent telephone manner
Salary, Benefits and Terms and Conditions
- This full time role attracts a salary of £30,000 pa
- Working hours are 9.00-17.30 or 9.30-18.00 Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch
- Annual leave is 25 days pa, excluding Bank Holidays but including the three days leave between Christmas and New Year
- Additional leave day for birthday
- Additional day leave after every full two years of service up to maximum of 30 days pa
