The teenager, aged 16 at the time of the offence, had been accused of stabbing a man in the back and upper body. The incident took place in full view of multiple people and was recorded on CCTV. The injuries received were life-threatening.

The young defendant was tried for attempted murder, but was acquitted by the jury. The defendant accepted stabbing the man, but denied attempting to kill him.
