Jack has a passion for housing and homelessness law, developed through volunteering at Citizens Advice and Law Centres. He has written on housing and homelessness law for Legal Action Magazine, and assisted on the duty desk at four county courts.
Jack complements his housing practice with work in family law. During his pupillage, he gained experience of care proceedings and private children cases, including those involving allegations of abuse.
While working towards the bar, Jack was awarded two scholarships by Inner Temple, and won prizes for his mooting, essays and academic work. During his pupillage, Jack won the Nicholas Jarman QC Advocacy Prize, awarded following assessment of all pupils on the Inner Temple Advocacy Course.
Housing Law
Overview
Jack is a specialist housing third-six pupil. On his journey to the bar, he gained extensive experience in housing law, volunteering at Citizens Advice, for a Law Center, and in private practice. He put his housing knowledge and advocacy skills to work by assisting on the duty desk in four courts.
During his pupillage, Jack’s practice centered on housing. He has worked on possession cases involving allegations of subletting, rent-to-rent agreements, and equality act defences. In addition to possession work, Jack has appeared for claimants in cases of disrepair and unlawful eviction, as well as prosecuting landlords under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Jack’s enthusiasm for housing law is reflected in pro-bono work, which has included defending a claim for possession by a mortgage lender and (before pupillage) providing representation in a Rent Repayment Order (RRO).
Jack has a particular interest in cases with a property law aspect. Prior to the bar, he helped defend possession proceedings with arguments based in proprietary estoppel, and a conveyance invalidated by fraud.

Family Law
Overview
Jack also works in family law. During his first six, Jack gained experience in care proceedings for local authorities, parents, guardians and Gillick-competent children. He worked on cases including non-accidental injuries to infants, disputed allegations of physical abuse, and parents with limited capability to care for children with medical conditions.
In his second six, Jack appeared in applications for non-molestation orders and private children cases. These included cases with allegations of stalking and abuse, both of adults and of children. His work has included a number of cases where public law proceedings were also in contemplation, and where the emotional abuse of children has required them to be separately represented.
