Catherine Rose of the Garden Court Financial Crime Team was instructed by Matthew Corn of Olliers Solicitors.
Catherine Rose represented the defendant, a man of previous good character.
The prosecution alleged that he was knowingly involved in an organised crime group smuggling over five million counterfeit cigarettes into the UK and evading excise duty in the value of £1.6 million.
Following a six-day trial, involving expert tachograph evidence, the jury acquitted the defendant. He was found not guilty of fraudulently evading duty worth £1.6 million.
