Elena Papamichael of the Garden Court Criminal Defence Team acted for the defendant, instructed by Emily McNally of Hodge Jones and Allen.
Elena Papamichael represented a 59-year-old man who was charged with carrying a firearm in a public place. The police found the defendant to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition on a grassy area outside his block of flats.
The police also found a sword at the defendant’s address and charged him with possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.
Elena lodged an application to dismiss the case and was able to persuade the court that, on a proper interpretation of the relevant firearms legislation, the case should not proceed to trial and the charges were dismissed.
