This webinar will serve as an update and refresher on issues arising on eligibility for housing and homelessness assistance, including in relation to the EU Settlement Scheme.
Speakers
Maaha Elahi, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers (Chair)
Maaha has a broad civil practice, specialising in immigration, housing and public law. She has successfully defended possession claims brought by both private and public landlords, on statutory and public law grounds. Maaha has argued on novel points of law in relation to possession and has been involved in a number of appeals. She regularly acts in disrepair claims, having dealt with such issues as a Parliamentary Caseworker.
Adrian Berry KC, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
Adrian practices across the field of public law, especially in British nationality, statelessness, immigration, EU law and after matters, international protection (refugee status, asylum), housing and accommodation, social assistance, and education. Adrian acts and advises in all areas of homelessness and allocations law concerning matters that are amenable to judicial review and in statutory homelessness appeals, under the Housing Act 1996 and in matters arising under the Equality Act 2010. In particular, he specialises in eligibility issues for migrants, appearing in numerous, reported cases.
Matthew Ahluwalia, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
Matthew is a social welfare and public law barrister. He has particular interest and experience in housing, homelessness, public law, welfare benefits, and migrants’ rights. Matthew has a busy housing law practice, and is happy to accept instructions in cases defending possession proceedings, homelessness, housing allocation schemes, and social security issues. Matthew’s experience in welfare benefits, public law, asylum support, and migrants’ rights enables him to provide a holistic approach.
