Recent developments in homelessness and allocation of social housing law

Presented by Liz Davies and Maya Naidoo.

2009 has been a busy year for lawyers and advisers dealing with homelessness and allocation of social housing law.

This seminar will consider recent significant decisions in the area of homelessness law including:
– Holmes-Moorhouse v Richmond upon Thames LBC (dependent children and priority need),
– Ali v Birmingham City Council (homeless at home and reasonable to continue to occupy test),
– Moran v Manchester City Council (women’s refuges), and
– Heald v Brent LBC (contracting out s.202 review decisions
together with the new Supplementary Code of Guidance on Intentional Homelessness (issued August 2009).

The House of Lords’ decision in Ahmad v Newham LBC and the new draft guidance on social housing allocation will also be discussed. Consultation on the draft Code closes on 23 October 2009.
