Tom Wainwright, of the Garden Court Protest Team, acted for the first and second defendants, instructed by Ella Jefferson and Hester Cavaciuti of Bindmans Solicitors.

Six doctors and nurses, all members of Health for XR, have been unanimously acquitted after being charged with criminal damage following a protest in 2022. Health for XR is a group of health workers supporting Extinction Rebellion.

In July 2022, during the UK’s first ever Level Four heatwave, the six healthcare professionals cracked windows at the Canary Wharf Headquarters of JP Morgan bank, the world’s largest financier of fossil fuels, in an intervention to try and save lives and prevent the unfolding public health and ecological emergency.

All six were arrested and charged with criminal damage. In June 2024, a jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court were unable to reach a verdict despite all available defences having been withdrawn prior to trial.

The CPS sought a retrial, and, on 16 February 2026, all six defendants were unanimously acquitted by the jury.

The third defendant was represented by Maryam Mir in the first trial and Yvone Kramo in the second, both of Doughty Street Chambers. Three defendants represented themselves.
