The tribunal heard that Ms Miller had received less money than a male technician in the same role as her, despite the fact she joined the school before he did. On one occasion, a colleague in the physics department told Ms Miller: “You should never have women in physics, I would never hire one.” Her complaint as to equal pay was treated by the school in a “dismissive and belittling” manner and amounted to sex discrimination.

Following the ruling, Ms Miller and the school have reached an undisclosed agreement. The school has announced that they will not be appealing the decision.
