The Garden Court Chambers Crime team regularly defend individuals charged with the most serious offences. We have a strong presence at the Central Criminal Court, where our barristers are instructed on a daily basis.

The Garden Court Crime Team won Crime Set of the Year at the Legal 500 Awards in 2015 and was shortlisted by the Legal 500 Awards for Crime Set of the Year in both 2016 and 2017.

Garden Court's Crime Team is best known for defending in cases ranging from murder and terrorism to public order and protest. We undertake a wide range of white-collar crime and regulatory work, including corporate fraud, missing-trader fraud, money laundering and confiscation cases. Many members have worked with community organisations and law centres, so we understand the needs of vulnerable clients facing criminal charges.

Over many years, Garden Court has defended in – and won – many of the landmark cases that have defined modern criminal law.

Our team consists of over 70 barristers, including 20 silks. We have the highest number of ranked silks at the Bar in Chambers & Partners.

Multidisciplinary expertise within Chambers means that we are able to call on other specialists. A number of crime team members also practise in the fields of judicial review (in particular, challenges to youth court practice and procedure), extradition, inquests into deaths in custody, actions against the police and public authorities and prison law. Our Youth Justice and Childs Team has a leading reputation for championing children’s rights in the criminal justice system.

We continue to actively lobby Government on policy proposals affecting the criminal Bar, in keeping with our ethos of defending access to justice.
