Garden Court Chambers shortlisted for record-breaking TEN awards at The Legal 500 Bar Awards

We are delighted to announce that Garden Court Chambers has been shortlisted in a record-breaking ten categories at The Legal 500 Bar Awards.

The awards are determined by the Legal 500’s independent research for the authoritative annual Legal 500 directory.

We are over the moon to announce that Garden Court Chambers has been nominated for a record-breaking ten awards at The Legal 500 Bar Awards 2023, taking place on Tuesday 3 October 2023.

Eight of our teams have been shortlisted across four categories and six of our members have been shortlisted. 

Garden Court Chambers is shortlisted for Court of Protection and Community Care Set of the Year. With our very own Bethan Harris shortlisted for Court of Protection and Community Care Junior of the Year. Bethan is an experienced practitioner who has been involved in leading Community Care and Court of Protection cases in the High Court in the last year, as well as representing Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice Cymru in the Covid-19 Inquiry.

Garden Court Chambers is shortlisted for Crime and Extradition Set of the Year. James Scobie KC is shortlisted for Crime and Extradition Silk of the Year. James is a highly experienced leading counsel with a wealth of experience in defending cases of gravity across a broad spectrum of criminal work, over the last year he has been involved in many high-profile cases at the Old Bailey.

We are also shortlisted for Immigration Set of the Year. Sonali Naik KC and Bojana Asanovic are shortlisted for Immigration Silk of the Year and Immigration Junior of the Year respectively. Sonali has been instructed in a number of leading immigration cases in the last year, including the Rwanda case and a number of wide-ranging litigation arising out of the Afghan crisis. Bojanna has been instructed in a number of complex cases over the last year, including the first case in the First-tier Tribunal where the Official Solicitor accepted to act as a litigation friend of the last resort. 

Garden Court Chambers is shortlisted for Public Law Set of the Year. This category also recognises civil liberties, human rights and inquests & inquiries. Leslie Thomas KC and Gráinne Mellon are shortlisted for Public Law Silk of the Year and Public Law Junior of the Year respectively. Leslie is a leading expert in claims against the police, claims against corporate bodies, and all aspects of inquests and public inquiries, having represented many bereaved families, most recently in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. He is also Professor of Law at Gresham College. Gráinne is involved in high profile trafficking, citizenship and human rights work, including representing search and rescue volunteer Sean Binder for his work saving refugees at sea in Greece. She also established a network of lawyers working on cases representing Afghan judges and prosecutors trying to enter the UK following the Taliban takeover.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Tuesday 3rd October 2023.
