Gerwyn Wise and Tommy Seagull represented a young man, aged 19 at the time of the incident, who was unanimously acquitted by a jury of attempted murder, attempted GBH with intent, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and perverting the course of justice, following a trial lasting over four weeks at the Central Criminal Court.

The Crown alleged that the defendant, first on the indictment, was part of a group – armed with at least one firearm and a machete – that had planned and carried out a ‘bold and brazen’ attack in east London. The attack was said to have targeted an individual, with gunshots discharged at two separate locations in an attempt to murder him.

The case involved multiple legal arguments, including the prosecution’s application to adduce various hearsay and bad character evidence. Through careful written and oral submissions, Gerwyn and Tommy successfully opposed both of those applications.

This case was factually and legally complex. In preparation, it involved close consideration of expert evidence relating to cell-site, firearms, fingerprint, drugs and CCTV evidence. At trial, the defendant – who was assisted by an intermediary due to his vulnerabilities – was the only defendant to give evidence.

Gerwyn and Tommy were expertly instructed by Georgia Patterson of TV Edwards.
