Giles Cockings KC of the Garden Court Crime Team, leading Graeme Molloy of Rose Court Chambers, secured full acquittals for his client who was alleged to have been part of a brutal joint enterprise murder within the Latino community in North London.
Facing allegations of murder and manslaughter, GP-G was unanimously cleared of all charges following an 8-week trial and a major international criminal investigation, ‘Operation Caltrops’.
All other co-defendants were unanimously convicted of murder.
‘Operation Caltrops’ was a complicated and protracted investigation carried out by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Unit with the assistance of the Spanish authorities. The case involved issues of extradition, extensive CCTV across both North and South London, voluminous telephone download material, and multi-faceted forensic evidence. The pathology had revealed a brutal attack with over 20 knife injuries. The deceased in this case, along with the defendants were all from the Dominican Republic and were part of the Latino community in Greater London.
Detailed analysis of the evidence and extensive cross-examination of key witnesses led to the acquittal.
