We are delighted to announce that our Joint Head of Chambers, Grace Brown, is highly commended in the 'Advocate of the Year' category at the Women & Diversity in Law Awards 2024.
Grace Brown is committed to the advancement of Black and ethnic-minority lawyers through doing what is right, utilising her remarkable legal skill to advocate for marginalised people. She was elected as Joint Head of Garden Court Chambers in 2024. Grace is regularly instructed in Windrush cases and works tirelessly for this cause, frequently advising solicitors, community groups and organisations on these issues, often pro bono.
Grace has challenged inequities and failings of the Windrush Compensation Scheme in the courts and has spoken at countless Windrush related events, including the Voices of Windrush Festival. She authored the blog 'Windrush – When is a Promise Not a Promise?' for the Garden Court website. Grace was also shortlisted for the 'Woman of the Year' award.
Garden Court Chambers was shortlisted across two set award categories: 'Race Equality Initiative of the Year' and 'Social Mobility Initiative of the Year', in recognition of our commitment to diversity and our pioneering and award-winning mentoring scheme, ‘Access to the Bar for All’.
