Icah Peart KC acted for the defendant, RB, instructed by Hockham Suthi of Riley Hayes Solicitors. Icah led Steve Tettey of Kenworthy Chambers.
Following a five-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court, Icah Peart KC’s client RB was unanimously acquitted of murder, manslaughter and perverting the course of public justice.
The case was a circumstantial one, and by dint of thorough preparation, including the garnering of numerous defence statements and a minutely detailed and careful analysis of CCTV footage, Icah was able to demonstrate that the Crown’s case completely lacked plausibility, which he exposed in a three-hour closing speech to the jury.
The case concerned an incident at the defendant’s place of business, which the deceased, wearing a balaclava and a bulletproof vest, assaulted in broad daylight with a Sten submachine gun, only to himself be shot dead by someone wielding a Skorpion submachine gun. Multiple individuals were in the workplace at the time.
The jury unanimously acquitted the defendant in under four hours.
