James Scobie KC represented Roman Lavrynovych and was instructed by Alaa Suleiman and Ahmad Jawad of Central Chambers Law Solicitors.
Ukrainian national, Roman Lavrynovych was acquitted by an Old Bailey jury of damaging property by fire with intent to endanger life, despite being convicted of alternate counts of damaging property by fire.
Roman Lavrynovych and co-conspirator Stanislav Carpiuc were arrested earlier this year, following arson attacks on a property and car linked to Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
James Scobie KC told the court his client was a “complete and utter foot soldier” and “fodder for this type of infiltration”.
The judge, Mr Justice Garnham, acknowledged that Roman Lavrynovych was a person who could be easily manipulated.
Described as “one of the most persuasive, thorough advocates of his time” by Chambers & Partners 2026 and “at the top of the profession” by Legal 500, James Scobie KC is top ranked in both directories.
