James Scobie KC and Catherine Rose of the Garden Court Crime Team represented the Defendant, instructed by Sharon Toor of Kalber Struckley Toor Solicitors.
James Scobie KC and Catherine Rose’s 21-year-old client was charged with attempting to murder another young man using a machete and a Stanley knife, as part of a long-running feud.
The Defendant admitted to having a Stanley knife and causing life-threatening wounds to the Complainant, but said that he acted in lawful self-defence, under attack by the Complainant and others.
The jury were in retirement for less than two and a half hours before returning unanimous verdicts of “not guilty” on the charges of Attempted Murder, s.18 Wounding and Possession of a Bladed Article (the machete). The Defendant was convicted in relation to possessing the Stanley knife only and received a sentence of six months’ imprisonment, ensuring his immediate release to his family.
James and Catherine were expertly assisted in preparing and presenting the client’s defence by Sharon Toor and Aliyah Robinson of Kalber Struckley Toor Solicitors.
