Mark Gatley KC has been instructed to act for a British businessman charged with arms export control violations.
The prosecution alleges that businessman David Greenhalgh brokered unlicensed sales of Russian military equipment including fighter jets, helicopter gunships, tanks, RPG rocket launchers, complex air defence missile systems and assault weapons to countries under international embargo including Syria, Libya and South Sudan.
David Greenhalgh has pleaded not guilty and the matter has been fixed for a 12 week trial at Southwark Crown Court in 2026.
Operation Afterburner is an historic seven-year investigation by HM Revenue & Customs into alleged breaches of arms embargoes. Mark is instructed by Mark Bowen and Anna Ford of Shearman Bowen and will lead Colin Witcher of Church Court Chambers.
