Mark Robinson is privately instructed for the lead defendant charged in a multi-million-pound VAT (Value Added Tax) fraud as part of Operation Envoy, a HMRC-led criminal investigation concerning the alleged submission of fraudulent VAT returns.

Mark represents the lead defendant, a single accountant who represented VAT-registered companies identified in the investigation. Evidence from the investigation indicates that the nine companies involved are subject to a controlling organised crime group (OCG).

The case involves the submission of fraudulent invoices purported to be from genuine suppliers to allegedly deceive HMRC into making VAT repayments, as well as documents such as building contracts and bank statements, to support VAT claims.

The lengthy trial, involving eight defendants, is due to commence in Birmingham Crown Court next year.

Mark Robinson of the Financial Crime & Confiscation Team is instructed by Dr Mansouri from Mansouri & Son Solicitors.
