Michael Ivers QC secured an acquittal for both murder and attempted murder for Shaan Mir at the Guildford Crown Court. The charges arose after an incident at a car park in Walton-on-Thames where the defendant was originally alleged to have deliberately driven over the two men and then reversed over them up to 4 times.

There were a large number of eye-witnesses and a compelling counter-narrative was developed in cross-examination concerning an original attack on the defendant and the ongoing impact of it. This was combined with a careful analysis of the pathology and neuropathology evidence in establishing the likely timing of the fatal injury. The defendant was convicted of manslaughter.

The case was covered in BBC News.
