The analysis, from ten barristers at Chambers, will be published at a ground-breaking National Conference to discuss action needed following the Zahid Mubarek Public Judicial Inquiry Report. Garden Court barrister, Dexter Dias, will be presenting a paper at the conference on key lessons to be learned from the tragedy.

The murder of Zahib Murabek on March 20th, 2000, led to the first ever public judicial enquiry into a killing in a British jail. His family fought for three years through the courts before a public inquiry was ordered. The outcome was the Keith Report which identified 186 failings.

The conference offers the public and stakeholders an opportunity to discuss and act on the recommendations from the inquiry report. Invited speakers (to be confirmed) include Justice Keith, Chair of the Zahid Mubarek Public Inquiry, Baroness Patricia Scotland, Home Office Minister, Phil Wheatley, the Director General of Prisons and Imtiaz Amin, Zahid Mubarek’s uncle.

The conference will take place from 9.30 am to 4.30pm on:

Friday 1st December 2006 at the Logan Hall, Institute Of Education, University of London, Bedford Way, London WC1H 0A
