Stella Harris led Letitia Duffus of the Garden Court Crime Team, instructed by Jessica Murray of Hodge Jones & Allen.
This case involved a multi-handed allegation of attempted murder involving a double shooting at two separate locations.
The Crown’s case was that this was a highly organised and targeted incident, with multiple parties involved on the ground, coordinating the attack by telephone, and acting as lookouts.
Stella and Letitia’s client was alleged to be a principal participant who was collected from the first scene and brought by bike to the second scene to continue the attack.
Following Stella’s cross-examination of the CCTV and identification officer, the Crown accepted that the identification of her client was so inherently weak, that they offered no evidence against him.
Their client had been remanded for over a year whilst awaiting trial and faced a lengthy sentence.
The trial involved minute scrutiny of CCTV evidence and careful analysis of the whereabouts of alternate candidates for the pillion passenger, from used and unused CCTV and cell-site evidence, and was a team effort between counsel and solicitors.
