Michael Goold represented the young man at his appeal against a sentence of two years’ custody. He was instructed by Martin O’Donnell from Stokoe Partnership.
The sentence was originally imposed at Snaresbrook Crown Court after the young man pleaded guilty to a robbery committed with two other young men when he was aged 17. Michael successfully argued that the sentence was excessive, and the sentencing judge had failed to give proper regard to the young man’s age, mitigation or the comparatively lenient sentences imposed on the young man’s co-defendants. The Court of Appeal reduced the two year sentence to 10 months’ custody which would result in the young man’s imminent release due to the amount of time he had already spent in custody.
Michael Goold is a member of the Garden Court Chambers Crime Team.
