This timely conference occurs following news that the current government has escalated dramatically its use of draconian powers to deprive British people – including those born British as of right – of their citizenship. These decisions, which frequently amount to a form of ‘summary exile’ take effect before a court can scrutinize their lawfulness. When did Parliament sanction this medieval punishment? Scrutiny of the passage through Parliament of the Bill that removed the suspensive right of appeal discloses serious concerns about what Parliament was told about the aims, purposes and limits of the legislation.

Speakers include Adrian Berry and Amanda Weston of Garden Court Chambers.

More information about the event, which takes place on Friday 14 February 2014, can be found on this flyer. Attendance is free but places are limited. You can register to attend via Eventbrite.
