Tim Baldwin of the Garden Court Chambers Housing Law Team has co-written an article for Legal Action Group, with Dianne Cowie of Duncan Lewis and Laura Coyle of Turpin Miller.
In the article, ‘Fee increases should be the start of wider reform’, The Housing Law Practitioners Association (HLPA) emphasised the urgent need to expand the scope of housing legal aid, particularly for disrepair issues, which remain excluded.
HLPA pointed to the Grenfell Tower fire as a tragic example of the consequences of restricted legal aid, arguing that tenants’ safety concerns were ignored due to a lack of access to legal advice. The association formally urged the Lord Chancellor and Housing Minister to expand legal aid coverage.
