Victoria Meads, instructed by Rob Johnson of SVS Solicitors, has successfully secured the acquittal of a female defendant on trial for manslaughter.
Victoria Meads, led by Stephen Moses KC, has successfully secured the acquittal of Paige Poulton, who was charged with the murder of Jack Cadwallader, 25, before the Crown Court earlier this year.
The case returned in December for retrial of the remaining manslaughter charge, and the Jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
The prosecution alleged a deliberate and forceful stab to the heart following a verbal altercation at an address in Harrietsham. The Crown relied upon audio and footage recorded on a nearby dash camera and extensive CCTV and telephone material examining the lead up to the fatal incident.
The Jury considered carefully the directions relating to the enhanced defence of self-defence applicable to householders and occupiers and reached a unanimous verdict.
Victoria Meads said: “This trial was a prime example of the work of juries. They forensically considered the mechanics of the fatal injury and the credibility of eyewitnesses, whilst bringing life experience and common sense to their deliberations. Jury trial is a cornerstone of our justice system and must be protected.”
Victoria was instructed by Rob Johnson of SVS Solicitors.
The case was widely reported by the BBC, ITV, and Kent Online.
