A protestor was found not guilty of Violent Disorder by a jury at Bristol Crown Court from an allegation arising from the ‘Bristol Riots’ of 2021.

During the protest, the defendant was filmed in possession of a police riot shield which he used to protect himself from PAVA spray used by police against protestors. At trial, he argued that his actions were justified in lawful self-defence and defence of others against apparently disproportionate force used by the police.

The Kill the Bill protests received nationwide media coverage, including on BBC News.
