Public hearings for Module 8 (Children and Young People) of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry continued today. Module 8 examines the impact of the pandemic on children and young people in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
At the Inquiry, Sangeetha questioned Baroness Longfield CBE, former Children’s Commissioner for England. on behalf of Long Covid Kids.
Sangeetha Iengar represents core participants Long Covid Kids and Long Covid Kids Scotland, grassroots advocacy organisations made up of parents whose children developed Long COVID, in Module 8 of the Inquiry. Sangeetha is led by Sarah Hannett KC of Matrix Chambers. Counsel instructed by Jane Ryan of Bhatt Murphy.
Questioning included:
“Why, when recognising the real impacts of Long COVID, did the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England, both you and your successor, take no steps to support or advocate for children and young people with Long Covid?
“For thousands of families, for children & families in the UK for which Long COVID is very real, do you agree that advocacy for the interests of a group of newly disabled children should, must evidently, form a priority for the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England?
