Speakers

Marina Sergides, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers (Chair)
Marina Sergides specialises in all aspects of social housing law. She has extensive experience in nuisance possession proceedings, section 204 homelessness appeals, unlawful eviction and harassment claims, disrepair claims, judicial review, human rights, public law defences, disability discrimination and ASBO in the civil courts. Marina is Co-Chair of the Housing Law Practitioners Association, along with Simon Mullings. She regularly speaks at housing law conferences, has written for Legal Action Magazine. Marina was a lecturer in housing law at London South Bank University and is a contributor to Housing Law Handbook: A Practical Guide (2nd edition).

Edward Fitzpatrick, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
Edward Fitzpatrick is a specialist housing barrister with a particular interest in homelessness appeals, public law challenges and cases involving Human Rights and Equality Act issues. He appears in substantial trials and appeals in the county court, as well as taking cases before the higher courts. Allied to housing work, Edward undertakes Community Care cases normally involving challenges to prevent destitution. Edward also undertakes a range of regulatory and property law cases. He is ranked for Social Housing in both the Legal 500 2019 in Tier 1 and Chambers UK Bar Guide 2019 in Band 1.

Kevin Gannon, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers 
Kevin Gannon practises in all areas of housing law, with special interest in homelessness and possession. In homelessness, he is experienced in dealing with all aspects including priority need, intentionality and suitability. He has a particular interest in housing cases that involve public law or human rights issues. Kevin also has experience in housing cases with community care or immigration law aspects. He sits part time as a social security tribunal judge and has particular expertise in cases involving social security law including Housing Benefit and Universal Credit. Kevin co-writes the Housing Benefit Law Update in the Legal Action journal. He also contributed to the Housing Law Handbook: A Practical Guide (The Law Society, 2020) along with other members of the team.
