Icah Peart KC and Lucie Wibberley‘s client was charged with violent disorder, murder and manslaughter. He was unanimously acquitted by a jury on all counts, following a five week trial at the Old Bailey.

The defendant had been jointly charged with four others on a five count indictment. The prosecution was based largely CCTV evidence.

The case involved issues as to the extent to which the Crown could rely on joint enterprise against the defendant. Counsel faced challenging decisions on advising their client about whether to give evidence in support of his defence. The jury were persuaded of his innocence by a lengthy closing speech to which both counsel contributed.
