Public hearings for Module 4 of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, ‘Vaccines and Therapeutics’ opened this week, with Chair Rt Hon Baroness Hallett DBE hearing opening submissions from core participants. A number of these were presented by members of Garden Court Chambers.
Module 4 aims to consider and make recommendations on a range of issues relating to the development of Covid-19 vaccines and the implementation of the vaccine rollout programme in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Issues relating to the treatment of Covid-19 through both existing and new medications will be also examined. There will be a focus on lessons learned and preparedness for the next pandemic.
The Module aims to examine thematic issues relating to unequal vaccine uptake, to include the identification of groups which were the subject of unequal uptake, potential causes of such unequal uptake and the Government response.
The module will address issues of recent public concern relating to vaccine safety and the current system for financial redress under the UK Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme.
