Garden Court barristers Amanda Weston KC, Joanne Cecil KC, Natasha Shotunde, Thalia Maragh, and Pete Weatherby KC this week made submissions, led impact witnesses, and supported clients in the ‘Care Sector’ (Module 6) module of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry.
The ‘Care Sector’ module aims to investigate the impact of the pandemic on the publicly and privately funded adult social care sector in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It considers the consequences of Government decision-making – including restrictions imposed – on those living and working within the care sector, as well as decisions concerning capacity in hospitals and residents in adult care and residential homes.
It also aims to address the steps taken in adult care and residential homes to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and examine the capacity of the adult care sector to respond to the pandemic.
Counsel made opening submissions on behalf of core participants at the Inquiry.
Garden Court barrister Amanda Weston KC made an opening submission on behalf of Frontline Migrant Health Workers Group, comprised of United Voices of the World, Independent Workers Union of Great Britain with Anabelle Timan, instructed by Joe Latimer of Public Interest Law Centre.
