Sangeetha Iengar of the Garden Court Environmental Law and Climate Justice Team will be speaking at the Commonwealth People’s Forum, part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026, held in Antigua.

Sangeetha will appear in a panel discussion with the Prime Minister of Antigua, Hon Gaston Browne. The discussion will explore the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on Climate Change one year on, and what it’s done for climate mobility.

The CHOGM 2026 takes place from 1-4 November, where the Institute for Law and Policy on Climate Mobility will publish its policy paper on Governing for Climate Mobility.

The Institute is part of Border Criminologies at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford, and was founded by Sangeetha to bring together leading experts to develop rights-based legal and policy responses to climate mobility.

Authored by Sangeetha, the Institute has recently published a position statement, Habitability: the lens through which climate mobility should be understood, arguing that policy must ensure that people can live safely and with dignity, whether they remain in their communities or move elsewhere.

Sangeetha specialises in public law, asylum, immigration, and international human rights law with a practice dedicated to promoting rights of the most disadvantaged groups.

Alongside her practice at the Bar, Sangeetha sits as a fee-paid Judge of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber and is Senior Research Scholar at Yale University and Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, focused on climate-related migration.
