We assist and advise on law and policy in the areas of landlord and tenant relations, homelessness, social housing, housing standards and disrepair, the Equality Act, human rights, anti-social behaviour, Romani Gypsy and Traveller rights, welfare benefits, and community care, among others.
We assist and advise on local authorities’ policies and their legal obligations, as well as on housing policy proposals, audits of existing policies to ensure compliance with existing law, drafting amendments to housing legislation, support with submissions to Parliamentary committees, and housing law reform proposals.
The Housing Law Team has expertise shaped by its leading housing law case work at all levels from the Supreme Court to the County Court, buttressed by its extensive list of leading housing law publications, including ‘Housing Allocation and Homelessness Law and Practice’ (2025) and the ‘Housing Law Handbook’ (2026). We are ranked in number one in Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 UK Bar Guides. As part of a multi-disciplinary set of barristers, we can deal also with housing law-adjacent areas such as immigration, family, and criminal law.
We can offer a full range of housing law expertise from KCs, to senior junior barristers (10 years+ call), and junior junior barristers (under 10 years’ call), see our list of team members. We can supply individuals and teams to suit your requirements and budget. We can be instructed directly on a Licenced Access or Public Access basis.
Drop Senior Practice Manager Tim Hempsted a line at timh@gclaw.co.uk to discuss your requirements.
Should you require a training course on any aspect of housing law and policy, we can help with this too. Find out more here.
