Hannah is a public law practitioner with expertise in refugee and trafficking claims, unlawful detention, asylum support, education law, and prison law.

Prior to joining Chambers, Hannah was a Senior Caseworker at Wilson Solicitors LLP. She has extensive experience in working with vulnerable adults and children and is regularly instructed in a range of asylum and deportation appeals, as well as complex applications for judicial review.

Immigration: Asylum and Human Rights

Overview

Hannah advises clients in all areas of immigration law. She has a particular interest in representing individuals in their protection and human rights appeals in the First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal, including victims of trafficking and those at risk of persecution on account of their political opinion, sexual orientation or gender.

Hannah specialises in cases that centre on the right to family life, ranging from appeals against the refusal of a family reunion application to challenges against deportation, where the best interests of children are involved.

Hannah is co-author of the chapter on Families and Children in the upcoming edition of Macdonald’s Immigration Law and Practice.

Administrative and Public Law

Overview

Hannah undertakes a wide range of public law work, including in immigration, unlawful detention, trafficking, asylum support and criminal justice cases. In the past year, Hannah was part of a team that successfully challenged as unlawful the Secretary of State’s Discretionary Leave policy for trafficking victims.

Education Law

Overview

Hannah has appeared regularly in SEND Tribunal appeals relating to Education, Health and Care Plans. She also acts in cases where children and young people challenge failures by a Local Authority to put in place suitable education, to secure provision set out in an EHC Plan, or to conduct an EHC Needs Assessment.

Prisoners’ Rights

Overview

Hannah frequently represents clients in their parole board hearings and in judicial review challenges against parole board decisions, including in relation to prisoner categorisation.  She has particular expertise in acting on behalf of those serving sentences of imprisonment for public protection (IPP sentences).

Background

Prior to commencing pupillage, Hannah was a Senior Immigration Caseworker at Wilson Solicitors LLP, where she gained experience representing clients in the First Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal in complex immigration, asylum and criminal deportation appeals. She has worked extensively with vulnerable children and adults, including victims of trafficking, torture and gender-based violence.

Hannah was formerly a Student Director of a project that assisted individuals with applications for Exceptional Case Funding, and a Co-founder of an organisation that provided general information about the UK asylum process to asylum-seekers living in the unofficial refugee camp in Calais.

She has also worked as a volunteer teaching assistant at the homelessness charity, Crisis UK, and at Cambridge House Law Centre, which specialises in housing and social welfare law.
