Module 3 of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry came to an end this week, with Chair Rt Hon Baroness Hallett DBE hearing closing submissions from core participants. A number of these were presented by members of Garden Court Chambers.

This module has been the longest of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry so far, and was of particular importance, as it covered the governmental and societal response to the pandemic. In particular, it explored the impact on healthcare systems, patients, and health care workers, including issues of discrimination and inequality.

The Inquiry heard first hand evidence from doctors, nurses, paramedics, cleaners, and other front-line staff, and very poignant evidence from bereaved family members. Additionally, there was expert testimony concerning topics such as the transmission of the virus, resourcing of the NHS, and the pandemic’s impact on primary and emergency care.

Module 4: Vaccines and Therapeutics will begin in January 2025.
